Expansion Joint Systems understands the demands of keeping up with today's ever-changing project requirements and the challenge of developing more efficient solutions for our customers. That's why we were pleased when we were presented with the opportunity to work with FLUOR and B&X Fabricators (Canada) to provide some of the largest FCCU expansion joints ever built for the Irving Oil project (Canada).

The project consisted of several refractory lined expansion joints that ranged in size from 49" diameter to 101" diameter with the largest expansion joint weighing in at 158,000 pounds. The three largest expansion joints for this project were assembled at B&X Fabricators in Quebec with EJS site technicians' supervision. After assembly was completed, these large expansion joints were barged up the St. Lawrence Seaway to the job site at Saint John.

Irving Oil is the largest refinery in Canada with a capacity of 250,000 bpd. This project included the installation of seven new major process units, including a 120,000 bpd crude oil distillation unit, a 70,000 bpd residue fluid catalytic cracking unit, an 8,000 bpd alkylation unit, a sulfuric acid regeneration unit, a sulfur plant tail gas unit, an amine sulfur recovery unit and a sour water stripping unit.
